The Austin Technique

The Austin Technique was created by Valerie Austin, who is one of the world's leading hypnotherapists. Valerie has trained with Ormond McGill (known in the US as the Dean of American Hypnotists), Gill Boyne (very influential in hypnosis in America and elsewhere), Bill Atkinson-Ball (who founded the Atkinson-Ball School of Hypnosis in the UK), and many others. She put all her training and experiences together, and designed a technique which incorporates the best of everything.

She then put it to the test, and has had ten years of success in England, France, Cyprus and Malaysia - stopping hundreds of people smoking, with an astounding 95% success rate.

In 1994, her technique was approved by Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Lee Kim Sai as an integrated part of the Malaysian government's crackdown on smoking. Valerie has also taught in Malaysian Universities. She has worked in London as a Harley Street specialist in hypno- therapy, and has written several books, including her most recent, 'Stop Smoking in One Hour'.

I am a successful therapist (of seven years standing) in my own right and have helped many people through many difficulties over the years. I have been personally trained by Valerie Austin in Advanced Structured Hypnotherapy. All Austin therapists receive ongoing training and I am currently a trainer with Austin Training.

If something isn't working in your life, it is either because you have a habitual way of thinking, feeling or behaving, or because of the effects of past experiences.

A past experience still exerting its influence in your life today is called a trauma. When you are at the effect of a trauma you re-experience the emotions and thinking patterns which happened at the time of the trauma, but you don't remember the events which provoked them.

These habitual behaviours, thoughts, feelings and traumas are the reason why people find it so hard to change. When you find it hard to change it's because you are trying to use your conscious will without taking into consideration the subconscious programming caused by habits and traumas.

Your mind is like a computer. As an Austin trained therapist I am like a skilled computer programmer and I can help you to reprogramme your subconscious and make the changes you require.

When you programme your subconscious in this way it allows you to redefine your thoughts, feelings and actions, thereby enabling you to generate new ways of thinking and behaving which bring about the changes you want.

Some questions people ask about hypnosis ...

 

What is hypnopsis?
Hypnosis is a state of relaxation. In this very pleasant and beneficial state, the subconscious mind becomes more susceptible to suggestion.

Are there some people who cannot be hypnotised?
Anyone who wants to go into hypnosis and who is willing to follow some simple instructions will go into hypnosis. It is not possible to hypnotise someone who doesn't want to be hypntised.

 

Are drugs or tablets used?

No.

 

If I have already been prescribed medicines or drugs by my GP or the hospital should I continue to take them?

Yes.

 

Should I tell my Doctor or Specialist?

By all means, if you feel this is the right way to do things.

 

Will I be aware of what's happening while I am in hypnosis?

Yes. You will not be asleep, nor in any way out of control, just beautifully relaxed. You can come out of hypnosis any time you choose.

 

Are there any harmful side-effects?

How many visits will I need?

3-5 sessions of one hour will suffice for most problems.
1 one hour session should be all that is required to stop smoking. (Free backup session available, if necessary.)
